If you are facing issues related to PF non-deposit or non-compliance, the resolution process under EPFO has now been streamlined with defined timelines for handling complaints.

The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has updated its grievance mechanism through the CAIU portal, introducing a structured workflow for faster and more accountable processing of complaints.

As per the circular, Regional Offices will first verify complaints using internal records. The document states that the office will examine the complaint "within a period of five days to determine if the complaint appears prima facie genuine."

If the complaint is found valid, it is forwarded to the employer for action, with a defined response window. The employer is given "a timeline of 7 days for rectification/resolution of the issue."

In case of delay, a reminder may be issued allowing "a further 7 days for resolution of the complaint," after which the case may be escalated for inspection approval from the Zonal Office, where necessary.

What this means for employees

Employees now have a better understanding of the status of complaints thanks to the revised system's more defined timetables and organised escalation. Resolution, however, will still require appropriate evidence and an employer response within the allotted time constraints.
