Top gainers and losers, April 28: Axis Bank, Maruti Suzuki fall 2.5%, ONGC soars 6%; check list

Top gainers and losers: The Indian benchmark indices, SENSEX and NIFTY50, closed in negative territory on Tuesday, April 28, amid a sell-off in PSU Bank stocks.

Furthermore, investor sentiment dampened as global oil prices surged.

On Monday, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold stocks worth ₹1,151.48 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) purchased shares worth ₹4,123.92 crore on a net basis, according to exchange data.

The SENSEX declined as much as 0.73% to touch an intraday low of 76,741.06. Meanwhile, the NIFTY50 tanked 0.56% to reach the session's low of 23,957.05.

On April 28, the 30-share BSE SENSEX dropped by 416.73 points or 0.54% to settle at 76,886.91, while the 50-share NSE NIFTY fell by 0.40% or 97 points to end at 23,995.70.

NIFTY50 top gainers and losers

Shares of Axis Bank dragged down the NIFTY50 index, closing 2.58% lower. It was followed by selling in Maruti Suzuki (-2.51%), HCL Technologies (-2.30%), Shriram Finance (-2.25%) and InterGlobe Aviation (-2.11%), which were among the top losers on Tuesday.

Shares of Maruti Suzuki fell as its net profit declined 6.92% year-on-year (YoY) to ₹3,590.5 crore in Q4 FY26, compared to ₹3,857.3 crore in the year-ago period.

On the other hand, Oil & Natural Gas Corporation closed in the green, up by 5.70%. It hit a 52-week high amid a spike in crude oil prices in the global markets.

The other top gainers included Adani Enterprises (3.88%), Coal India (3.41%), Reliance Industries (2.06%) and Eternal (1.77%).

The stock of Eternal, the parent company of Zomato and Blinkit, soared as it posted a 346.15% YoY jump in its consolidated net profit to ₹174 crore in the latest March quarter, from ₹39 crore.

NIFTY Midcap 100 top gainers and losers

NSE's NIFTY Midcap 100 gauge advanced 0.28% or 171.05 points to end at 60,419.40 on April 28.

Oil India (4.49%), Waaree Energies (3.08%), Glenmark Pharmaceuticals (3.07%), Indus Towers (3.03%) and Adani Total Gas (2.97%) were among the top winners.

On the flip side, the top laggards were SBI Cards and Payment Services (-3.41%), Laurus Labs (-2.57%), Bank of India (-2.18%), AU Small Finance Bank (-1.92%) and IDFC First Bank (-1.88%).

NIFTY Smallcap 100 top gainers and losers

The NIFTY Smallcap 100 index surged by 0.42% or 75.45 points to close at 17,976.10.

Cohance Lifesciences ended 13.09% higher. The other top gainers included Tata Chemicals (10.90%), Piramal Finance (9.43%), Afcons Infrastructure (6.06%) and Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals (4%).

Shares of Piramal Finance rallied to hit a 52-week high of ₹2,073.20 per equity share on April 28, after reporting a 390% YoY jump in its net profit to ₹502 crore in Q4 FY26.

On the contrary, the top losers included Tata Technologies (-3.69%), Zensar Technologies (-2.98%), Ola Electric (-2.65%), Brainbees Solutions (-2.37%) and Piramal Pharma (-2.33%).
