Fact Check: Viral Video Claimed To Show TMC MP Sayoni Ghosh Dancing During Election Campaign Actually Features A Bangladeshi Dancer

Fact Check: Viral Video Claimed To Show TMC MP Sayoni Ghosh Dancing During Election Campaign Actually Features A Bangladeshi Dancer

New Delhi (Vishvas News). A video attributed to Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Sayani Ghosh of Jadavpur Lok Sabha constituency has gone viral during the 2026 Bengal Assembly elections.

The viral video shows a woman in a red-and-white sari dancing on stage. The video is misattributed to the Bengal Assembly elections, with claims that TMC MP Sayani Ghosh danced on stage to garner support during the election campaign.

Vishvas News investigated and found the viral claim to be false. This video is actually of a Bangladeshi dancer named Megha Queen and has no connection to India. The same video is now being misattributed to Sayoni.

What is going viral?

Facebook user 'Dev Prakash' shared the viral video on May 15, 2026, with the caption, 'See what TMC's Sayani Ghosh had to do to become an MP.'

Investigation

To verify the authenticity of the viral claim, we conducted a Google reverse image search using relevant keywords. This led us to a different version of the video on a YouTube channel called '@alltimenewsBangladesh', shared on April 15, 2026. In the video, a poster is seen behind the stage, with 'Baisakhi Mela' written in Bengali with a photo of Bangladesh's Prime Minister Tariq Rahman. This raised the suspicion that the video was from Bangladesh. We searched the YouTube channel and found that many videos of the dancing woman are also available on other channels. The woman in the video is identified as Megha Queen.

To verify further, we contacted Vishal Kumar, a reporter for Dainik Jagran in Kolkata, who confirmed that the viral claim is false.

What is the context?

Assembly elections in four states and one union territory, including West Bengal, were concluded in May 2026. The BJP formed the government in West Bengal after securing 207 seats in the 294-member Assembly and appointed Suvendu Adhikari as Chief Minister, while the TMC was reduced to 80 seats. Following this defeat, Sayoni issued a similar statement, saying, 'We have not lost, but Mamata Banerjee has been defeated. She has been defeated by vote theft and vote plunder.'

Lastly, we scanned the Facebook account of the user who shared the video with the false claim and found that the user shares posts related to a specific ideology.

Conclusion: Vishvas News investigated and found that the viral claim regarding a video of a dancing woman is false. This video is actually of a Bangladeshi dancer named Megha Queen and has no connection to India. The same video is now being attributed to TMC leader Sayoni Ghosh.
