A major incident has been reported from Ayodhya, where a sudden road cave-in in the heart of the city created panic among locals. The incident occurred near the Ayodhya Cantt Railway Station, near the old Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) office.
The road reportedly sank over a stretch of more than 100 meters, putting several motorists at risk. Fortunately, commuters passing through the area managed to escape unharmed. The sudden collapse created a deep depression in the middle of the road, posing a serious threat to pedestrians and disrupting traffic movement across the area.

Key route connecting major locations affected

The affected stretch is considered highly important from both civic and strategic perspectives. It serves as a crucial route for people traveling to the Ayodhya Cantt Railway Station, the postmortem house, and various government offices, including the BJP office.

Following light rainfall on Wednesday morning, the road weakened significantly, leading to the collapse. Videos and images of the incident quickly went viral on social media, triggering panic among locals and prompting swift administrative action.

Negligence in construction work alleged

Initial reports suggest that negligence during recent construction work may have caused the road to cave in. Locals alleged that a sewer line had been laid in the area recently, but proper construction standards were not followed.

According to PWD Executive Engineer S.P. Bhartiya, the sewer pipeline work was carried out by the Jal Nigam. Ideally, sand should have been used to cover the pipeline, but soil was used instead. A leakage in the pipeline caused the soil to erode over time, leaving the road hollow beneath the surface, which eventually led to the collapse.

Repair work begins on a war footing

Taking the situation seriously, senior officials from the Public Works Department and Jal Nigam reached the site by evening. The area was immediately barricaded to ensure safety, and restoration work began on a war footing.

Teams are currently working to fix the pipeline leakage and refill the affected portion with proper materials. Authorities have assured that the road will be repaired soon and normal traffic movement will be restored soon.
