Rapper and singer Badshah has issued a public apology following controversy over his latest song 'Tateeree', saying he never intended to hurt the sentiments of people from Haryana.
Acknowledging the criticism, Badshah said he had seen how the song had upset many people, particularly those from his home state. 'My song 'Tateeree' has been released and I have noticed that its lyrics and visual representation have hurt many people, especially the sentiments of my own people from Haryana,' he said in the video.
Emphasising his roots, the rapper said his identity is deeply connected with Haryana. 'I am from Haryana. Those who know me know that my language, food, lifestyle and identity are all rooted in Haryana. I am a proud Haryanvi. I never had any intention of saying such things about any child or woman from the state,' he said.
Explaining the nature of his musical genre, Badshah said hip-hop often features competitive lyrics aimed at rivals rather than individuals. He stressed that the controversial lines were never meant for women or children and reiterated his respect for the culture and language of his home state.
The singer has recently come under scrutiny over the song, with criticism mounting on social media regarding its lyrics and visual depiction. An FIR has been registered against him, and authorities have reportedly initiated the process to issue a Lookout Circular (LOC).
Police have also served a notice asking the rapper to appear for questioning. According to officials, police teams have been conducting raids in an effort to locate him, as confirmed in a post by the department on social media.
