In a shocking yet deeply emotional incident from Muzaffarnagar, a monkey held a three-month-old baby girl for nearly two hours, cradling and caressing her as if she were its own child, leaving the family and locals in panic.
The incident took place in Charthawal town, where a daily wage worker, Tehseen, had left for work in the morning. His wife, Gulistan, was at home with their infant daughter. After feeding the baby, she put her to sleep in a room and stepped outside to attend household chores.
In her absence, a monkey quietly entered the house and sat beside the sleeping infant. When Gulistan returned, she was left stunned to find the animal gently touching the baby's face and holding her close.
Panic Grips Family and Neighbours
As the mother screamed for help, neighbours rushed in. Attempts were made to scare the monkey away or lure it with food, but the animal turned aggressive, charging at anyone who came close.
The baby kept crying, heightening tension among the family members. However, despite the chaos, the monkey did not harm the child and continued to cradle her protectively.
Rescue Operation Saves the Infant
With all efforts failing, an animal rescuer, Sunny Chopra, was called in. Assessing the situation, he used an unusual tactic-playing wildlife videos on his mobile phone to distract the monkey.
As the animal's attention shifted towards the sounds and visuals, it moved away from the baby. Seizing the moment, the rescuer safely retrieved the infant and handed her back to her mother.
Why Did the Monkey Behave This Way?
According to the rescuer, the monkey was a mother that had lost its own baby just six days earlier. Grieving the loss, it appeared to mistake the infant for its own and displayed strong protective instincts.
This explains why it became aggressive when people tried to take the baby away, behaving more like a guarding parent than a threat.
