Director Vinil Mathew revealed that the 2014 romantic comedy Hasee Toh Phasee was initially considered for a very different lead cast, including Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, Imran Khan, and Vidya Balan.

Speaking to Variety India, Mathew said, 'These were the main names in the mix. I approached almost every actor you could think of—Ranbir, Shahid, Ranveer, Ayushmann, Emraan Hashmi—but for one reason or another, it didn't work out. Eventually, Siddharth and Parineeti took the lead. Every film has its destiny; when it's meant to happen, it happens.'

Although the film did not receive immediate acclaim upon release, it gradually found appreciation over time. Repeated television broadcasts and availability on digital streaming platforms helped it build a loyal audience, leading to renewed recognition.

Today, Hasee Toh Phasee is celebrated for its quirky storytelling and unconventional characters, earning a modest cult status among contemporary Hindi romantic comedies. The film is set for a re-release in theatres at PVR and INOX on March 6.
