Defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru will aim to rediscover their batting rhythm when they face the inconsistent Gujarat Titans in an IPL clash at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Friday.
RCB head into the contest after a disappointing six-wicket loss to Delhi Capitals, where a slightly slow Chinnaswamy pitch blunted their usually aggressive batting approach. Currently placed third with eight points, RCB are under pressure, with Sunrisers Hyderabad, Delhi Capitals, and Gujarat Titans closely trailing. Another defeat could complicate their playoff push, especially with a challenging run of away fixtures ahead.
The hosts will rely heavily on their batting lineup to step up. While Phil Salt's 63 was a bright spot in the previous game, the rest of the lineup—including big hitters—struggled to adapt to the conditions. RCB may need to rethink their approach and adopt more flexible strategies when conditions don't favour aggressive stroke play.
On the bowling front, RCB showed resilience, with Bhuvneshwar Kumar leading the attack effectively and taking the game deep against Delhi. However, a lack of runs proved costly. A more balanced performance will be crucial this time.
Meanwhile, Gujarat Titans are also seeking redemption after a crushing 99-run defeat to Mumbai Indians, where they were bowled out for just 100. The loss significantly dented their net run rate and exposed batting frailties.
Captain Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler have provided some stability at the top, but the middle order has failed to deliver consistently. Players like Sai Sudharsan, Glenn Phillips, and Rahul Tewatia will need to contribute more meaningfully if Gujarat are to challenge RCB.
Despite their batting inconsistencies, Gujarat boast a formidable bowling attack featuring Rashid Khan, Kagiso Rabada, Mohammed Siraj, and Prasidh Krishna. However, their efforts have often been undermined by lack of support from the batters.
With both teams looking to bounce back and strengthen their standings, Friday's clash promises to be a tightly contested battle.
