Delhi Doubles LPG Supply for Migrant Workers, Ensures Fair Distribution

Increased Allocation for Migrant Workers

In addition to the boost in small-cylinder supply, the quota for commercial LPG allocated to migrant workers has also been raised-from 180 to 360 cylinders per day.

The government has stated that priority will be given to those in genuine need to ensure equitable access.

Revised Daily Cap and Distribution Strategy

The increase comes under a revised total daily cap of 6,480 LPG cylinders across Delhi. According to the minister, essential services will be prioritised under this system. Any surplus cylinders from one category will be redistributed to others after fulfilling primary demand. Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) have been directed to strictly follow this daily cap and report any inter-category transfers to the Food and Supplies Department to maintain transparency and accountability.

Focus on Transparency and Efficiency

To streamline distribution, the department has introduced several operational measures. Authorised agencies will distribute 5-kg free trade LPG cylinders to migrant workers, with Aadhaar verification made mandatory to prevent misuse. A centralised beneficiary database is also being maintained by OMCs to eliminate duplication. Additionally, a minimum gap of seven days has been set before an individual can receive another cylinder.

Priority Sectors Identified

The government has identified several priority sectors for LPG distribution, including:

  1. Educational and healthcare institutions
  2. Government bodies, PSUs, and subsidised community kitchens
  3. Hotels, restaurants, dhabas, and food processing units
  4. Caterers and banquet services
  5. Labour-intensive industries such as automobile, textile, chemical, plastic, glass, power, and pharmaceuticals
  6. Sports facilities and stadiums
  7. Government's Assurance Amid Shortage Concerns

Minister Sirsa emphasised that the government is committed to ensuring there is no shortage of LPG in the city. He dismissed reports of any gas shortage as "completely baseless" and urged citizens to rely only on authorised OMCs for bookings.

He also highlighted that inspections are being carried out across Delhi to curb hoarding and black marketing, with strict action promised against violators.

Encouraging long-term solutions, the minister advised residents to consider switching to PNG connections where possible.
