The Duster made them cool, practical, and aspirational. It was rugged enough for weekend adventures yet comfortable enough for daily commutes.

From road trips to Ladakh to braving Indian monsoons, the Duster earned a reputation for being unstoppable. With over 200,000 owners in India and nearly 1.8 million customers worldwide, it didn't just sell; it built a fan following. Even today, you'll find Dusters proudly clocking lakhs of kilometres, still going strong.

Renault's Big Comeback Strategy

The new Duster will be the first model under Renault's "International Game Plan 2027", a long-term roadmap to reboot its presence in India. Renault is calling this strategy "Renault. Rethink.", signalling a refreshed approach to design, innovation, and value.

We expect the Renault Duster to debut with features and tech that can set benchmarks for the entire segment once again, as the compact SUV segment is now buzzing with a lot of new launches!

Design: A Rugged Makeover

We've already got our first look at the new Duster, which was revealed in Turkey back in 2024. Originally introduced as the Dacia Duster back in 2023, the Renault-badged version carries only minor visual changes, and it looks properly modern.

The 2026 Duster's design is a major step up from the old one. There's a sleek new grille flanked by Y-shaped LED DRLs, a chunky front bumper, and a strong, upright stance that screams SUV. Squared-off wheel arches and a reworked glasshouse make it look wider and more planted, while the Y-shaped LED tail lamps and large rear bumper give it that muscular, ready-for-anything vibe.

In short, it still looks like a Duster, just one that's been to the gym and got a tech upgrade.

Interior: All-New And All-Digital

Step inside, and it's clear Renault isn't playing safe anymore. The 2026 Duster's cabin takes a big leap forward with a minimalist dashboard layout and sleek AC vents that replace the older, boxy setup. Taking centre stage is a 10.1-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system, complemented by a 7-inch digital driver's display.

The cabin feels far more premium and upmarket than before, a clear sign that Renault is targeting younger, tech-savvy buyers who expect their SUVs to look as good inside as they do outside.

Features: Packed With Tech And Safety

The upcoming India-spec Renault Duster is expected to come loaded with all the features you'd expect in a modern SUV. Highlights include connected car tech, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 6-speaker Arkamys sound system, wireless charging, automatic climate control, and cruise control.

On the safety front, expect six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, hill-hold assist, tyre pressure monitoring, and possibly even ADAS (advanced driver-assistance systems), a big move up from the previous model.

Engines: Cleaner, Smarter, Stronger

Globally, the new Duster comes with multiple hybrid petrol powertrains. There's a 130 PS 1.3-litre mild-hybrid petrol, a 140 PS 1.6-litre strong-hybrid paired with a 1.2 kWh battery, and even a 1-litre petrol-LPG combo.

For India, Renault hasn't confirmed the exact engine lineup yet, but the most likely option will be the 1.3-litre mild-hybrid petrol, offered with both manual and automatic transmission choices. Don't expect a diesel just yet, though a 4x4 variant could arrive later, depending on demand.

Why Does It Still Matter?

Over the years, the Duster, for many, was their first "real SUV." Its return in 2026 isn't just about reviving a nameplate; it's about reigniting that connection with enthusiasts who've been craving something authentic in an increasingly digital automotive world.

The Countdown Begins

So mark your calendars: January 26, 2026. That's when Renault will officially pull the wraps off the new Duster in India. Until then, fans can sign up for the waiting program that's already live.

It will lock horns with the compact SUV contenders like the Hyundai Creta, Maruti Victoris, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, the upcoming Tata Sierra and the upcoming next-gen Kia Seltos, which by the way almost here and also the upcoming Nissan SUV, which has been named as Tekton. Phew... That's a lot of contenders to fight off.

It is expected to begin from a price of Rs 10 lakh, atleast that's what we hope!

The OG SUV is coming back to reclaim its territory, tougher, smarter, and truer to its roots than ever before.
