Alert cops nab youth who robbed man outside bank

Accused Ankur Modesara snatched a bag from a pvt firm employee who had withdrawn Rs 4 cr

A 30-year-old unemployed youth nabbed by the police after he attempted to rob an employee of a private firm who had just withdrawn money from a bank in Vastrapur. The incident took place outside IDBI Bank near Vastrapur lake on Monday.
Police said Sunil Chauhan and Satish Patni of Growmore Trading company visited the bank to withdraw a large sum of money from the company's account. As per reports, after withdrawing Rs 4 crore from the bank, Chauhan came out with a certain portion of the money to keep it in his car parked outside. Just then, accused Ankur Modesara, a Chandlodia resident, allegedly threw chilli powder in Chauhan's eyes. CCTV footage showed Modesara snatching the bag containing the money and trying to flee on his two-wheeler.
However, Chauhan managed to get hold of the accused, who fell off his bike. He then tried to flee on foot leaving behind the money bag, but was caught by police.

Passers-by raise alarm

After his robbery attempt failed, Modesara tried to escape from the spot. Hearing the commotion, PSI M H Rawal and constable Avtarsinh, who were at the police chowky nearby, saw Modesara running away. They chased and caught him.
