Shortage of Covishield: Vaccination dips by 5 times
While the Gujarat government is encouraging people to get vaccinated, there was almost five times less vaccination in Ahmedabad city on Monday, primarily due to non-availability of Covishield. The corporation provided only Covaxin to the centres.
As per AMC data, only 9,912 people got the jabs on Monday -- 5592 men and 4320 women.
However, according to AMC's data on Sunday, July 25, 48,784 people were vaccinated in total in a day; of these 29,840 were men and 18,944 women. This is not the first time that the citizens are facing shortage of Covishield vaccine; earlier too this has happened and many had to return from the session sites without vaccination. Medical experts are of the strong opinion that if the government doesn't ensure continuous supply of the vaccine, it will be difficult to deal with the deadly virus that is mutating fast with the passing time.
Among the 9912 people vaccinated on Monday, a total of 3,549 men and 2479 women were in the 18-44 group. A total of 1,808 citizens in the 45+ age group were vaccinated, of which 982 were men and 826 women. However, the senior citizen category had less than 200 beneficiaries. Of the 375 senior citizens (above 60 yrs) who got the shot, 184 were men and 191 women. A total of 1,701 people were vaccinated in private hospitals.
