Young voters set to play a major role in Assembly polls


GUWAHATI: The young generation of voters will be playing a major role in the forthcoming Assembly elections in Assam. This is true of the electorates who fall in the age bracket of 20-29 years, especially because it comprises the maximum number of voters this time. According to the latest 'Photo Electoral Roll' published on January 18, 2021, of the 64,29,378 electorates in this age group, there are 32,32,795 males and 31,96,583 females. The Assembly polls in the State will be conducted according to the 'Photo Electoral Roll-2021'

On the other hand, of the 4,20,792 first-time voters (18-19 age group), there are 2,36,893 males and 1,83,889 females.

Of the 56,69,880 electorates in the age group of 30-39 years, there are 28,39,749 males and 28,30,131 females. In the age group of 40-49, of the total 45,12,065 electorates, 22,53, 858 are males and 22, 58, 207 females.

In the age group of 50-59 years, of the total 31,74,752 electorates, there are 16,57,658 males and 15, 17, 094 females. Of the total 17,35,241 electorates in the age group of 60-69 years, there are 9,22,573 males and 8, 12, 668 females. In the age group of 70-79 years, of the total 7,56,684 electorates, there are 3,76,156 males and 3,80,258 females.

In the oldest age group of 80-89, of the total 2,93,713 electorates, there are 1,37,694 males and 1,56, 019 females.

Mentionably, female voters outnumber the males in the following age groups: 40-49 years, 70-79 years and 80 plus.

On the other hand, while the highest number of 4,06,555 electorates is in Dispur Legislative Assembly Constituency (LAC) within Kamrup (Metro) district; the lowest number of 1,14,221 electorates is in Thowra LAC within Sivasagar district.

The total electorates in Assam are 2,29,92,505. Of them, 1,16,57,376 are males and 1,13,35,129 are females. There is an increase of 2.46% voters as compared to the 'Photo Electoral Roll-2020'.
