The Yamaha XSR 155 is one of the most beautiful neo-retro bikes in India, and here's a closer look from every angle.

The Yamaha XSR 155 is a neo-retro motorcycle from the brand priced at Rs 1,49,000 (introductory, ex-showroom).

If you are planning to buy one, check out the Yamaha XSR155 on-road prices in 5 major cities. You may also take a look at the entire XSR155 booking guide. Do note that the price of the retro Yamaha bike is scheduled to increase in March. Here's a closer look at motorcycle in real-life images:

Looks - Retro Yet Modern

The Yamaha XSR 155 is a compact motorcycle with minimalistic design language. It features a round-LED headlamp, a tear-drop shaped fuel tank, and a sleek rear section. The long single-piece seat also adds to its retro characteristics. The fit and finish of this bike is pretty good.

Yamaha also offers two optional customisation kits to modify your XSR 155. There's one that gives it a scrambler look with a bunch of accessories like a flyscreen, diamond-pattern seat cover, bar-end mirrors and more. The other one offers a cafe-racer look with a headlight cowl, seat with hump, lever guards, among others. Both these kits ensure your bike looks unique without compromising on warranty.

Details -

  • The bodywork looks simple, but is designed to look quite beautiful.

  • Though the headlight and taillight are circular, they are LEDs. Even the indicators are LEDs. We'd have liked it if the indicators were circular instead of oval-shaped.

Colours - Elegant And Premium

The Yamaha XSR 155 is currently offered in a single variant and 4 colours: Metallic Blue, Metallic Grey, Vivid Red and Greyish Green Metallic. The grey colour version keeps things simple with minimalistic stickers, whereas the red, green and blue have fancier liveries.

To take a closer look at the colours, check out our XSR colour explainer guide.

Details -

  • Paint quality and branding makes this bike look premium.

  • The green colour version gets alloy wheels finished in copper colour

  • On the other hand, the blue colour variant is the only one with a gold-finished fork

Engine - Refined And Lively

This Yamaha bike is powered by a 155cc, liquid-cooled, single cylinder engine with VVA (Variable Valve Actuation - a technology that offers a good balance between low and top-end drive). The motor produces 18.4PS and 14.2Nm paired with a 6-speed gearbox. The same engine is seen with the Yamaha R15 and Yamaha MT15.

It delivers an engaging riding experience, and is also refined, making it great for your daily city commutes and the occasional highway rides.

Details -

  • Top-end performance is strong, and low-speed tractability is also good.

  • Since it's a liquid-cooled engine on a retro bike, the plumbing is visible, so the engine portion may look a bit cluttered.

  • The fat upswept exhaust gets a ventilated heat-shield, and is finished in matte black in all colour variants

Features - Practical For Urban Rides

This neo-retro motorcycle gets a round LCD console featuring dual trip metres, a fuel gauge, gear position indicator and clock. Along with these it also gets Bluetooth connectivity for other connected features: call/SMS and email alerts. It also gets other features like slip-and-assist clutch, a basic traction control system and dual channel ABS.

Details -

  • Covers all essential features required for urban commutes, including a mileage indicator.

  • The information is arranged neatly, and it's easy to view the key information

  • Sadly there's no turn-by-turn navigation.

Underpinnings & Other Specifications

The XSR 155 is built on a deltabox frame and comes with an inverted fork and a monoshock. It rolls on 17-inch alloy wheels with 100-section front and 140-section rear tubeless tyres with disc brakes at both ends.

The 810mm seat height may seem tall, but it is narrow enough for shorter riders to place their feet comfortably. Moreover, this coupled with the light kerb weight of 137kg means it should be easy to move around in parking lots. The 170mm ground clearance should be decent enough for Indian roads. You'll just have to be wary of the small 10-litre fuel tank if you were to go on long-distance tours. Otherwise, the tank capacity should be enough for commutes.

Details -

  • Traction control isn't necessary on a 150cc bike, but is still quite useful when the roads are slippery, especially for inexperienced riders.

  • Upright riding posture and compact dimensions (short 1325mm wheelbase) mean easy direction changes

  • Doesn't compromise on safety, so it's a great choice for beginners

This Yamaha's neo-retro motorcycle rivals the Royal Enfield Hunter 350, which looks equally retro, but offers a laid-back performance.
