Director Ranjith is embroiled in a sexual harassment case.
The Ernakulam police filed an FIR against the filmmaker based on a complaint from an actress. The actress alleged that Ranjith attempted to sexually assault her inside a caravan at a film shooting location on January 30th of this year. Acting on the complaint, the police recorded her confidential statement and initiated proceedings to arrest the director.

Many allegations against Ranjit Balakrishnan
Ranjit Balakrishnan has been charged under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including non-bailable offenses under Section 74 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), Section 75 (sexual harassment), and Section 79 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman). According to reports, Balakrishnan was taken into custody by police from Thodupuzha on March 31.

The director was admitted to the hospital
Following his arrest, Ranjith complained of uneasiness and was taken to Ernakulam General Hospital for a medical examination. However, hospital officials confirmed that there were no serious health problems. He was subsequently produced before the Judicial First Class Magistrate Court, which remanded him to judicial custody this morning. He is currently lodged in the Ernakulam Sub Jail.
The director has been accused of sexual harassment before
For your information, this isn't the first case of sexual harassment allegations against the director. In 2024, a Bengali actress accused him of attempting to molest her during a film discussion in 2009, following which an FIR was filed. These allegations surfaced following the release of the Justice Hema Committee report, which highlighted systemic issues of sexual exploitation and harassment in the Malayalam film industry.
