Australia have announced their T20I squad for the Pakistan series. While a few big names are absent, 10 players travelling to Pakistan will be part of the T20 World Cup 2026 squad, and this rubber will help them fine-tune their preparations.
Big names in Australia T20I squad
Mitchell Marsh will lead a star-studded side that also has the likes of Travis Head, Cameron Green, and Adam Zampa. Other notable inclusions are Marcus Stoinis and Matthew Short.
In the bowling department, Australia have only one pacer, Xavier Bartlett, who will also be part of the T20 World Cup 2026. Other names include fringe bowlers like Sean Abbott and Ben Dwarshuis, who have been around the setup for a while.
Adam Zampa will lead the spin department again, while the left-arm Matthew Kuhnemann remains their second-choice spinner. Matthew Short will provide off-spin variety, along with firepower with the willow at the top.

BBL performers rewarded with a national selection
Additionally, Australia have also rewarded a spot to several top BBL performers for the Pakistan series. They have included Matt Renshaw, who is currently the fourth-leading run-scorer, with 324 runs at an average of 36 and a strike rate of 152.83 in 10 innings, including a century.
He also has five wickets at 19.40 runs apiece and an economy rate of 6.54. Other BBL stars in the Australia squad are Mahli Beardman and Jack Edwards.
Edwards has been a revelation as a bowler this season, with 15 scalps at an average of 18.33 in nine outings, with a five-wicket haul. He also has 115 runs at an average of 38.33 and a strike rate of 191.66 in seven innings, including a best of 46*, as his all-round heroics helped Sydney Sixers finish second on the points table.
Meanwhile, Beardman has also flexed his pace and wicket-taking ability, grabbing eight wickets at 30.25 runs apiece in nine innings, with a best of 2/30. He was part of the Australia squad for the India T20Is and will look to build on a nice BBL season in flat Pakistan conditions.
Nathan Ellis and Glenn Maxwell rested, Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood given more recovery time
Meanwhile, Australia have excluded Nathan Ellis and Glenn Maxwell, who will directly join Australia's T20 World Cup 2026 members in Colombo. The duo is part of the ongoing BBL, where their teams, Hobart Hurricanes and Melbourne Stars, have qualified for the next round.
Hence, they will complete the BBL duties and manage workload to stay fresh for the mega event. BBL 2025/26 concludes on January 25, four days before the start of the T20I rubber against Pakistan.
On the other hand, Tim David, Pat Cummins, and Josh Hazlewood will also participate directly in the T20 World Cup 2026. David suffered a hamstring injury during the BBL 2025/26, which ruled him out of the competition, and Australia expect him to be fine by the start of the T20 event.
Meanwhile, Cummins, who sustained a back injury last year, has been cautious with his workload and will rest before the T20 World Cup 2026. He returned for the third Ashes 2025 Test in Adelaide and delivered a match-winning performance before going off again to remain fresh for the mega tournament.
Hazlewood has also been recovering well from his hamstring and calf injuries, but will be unavailable for the Pakistan series. The lack of enough game time will be a concern, but Australia hope he gets fit in time for the T20 World Cup 2026.
