Mumbai, April 10: Andy Robertson has confirmed that he will leave Liverpool at the end of the season. The defender's contract will expire, and the club has hailed him as a "genuine Liverpool legend." Robertson expressed that he has few regrets about his nine years at Anfield.
The Scotland captain will join Mohamed Salah in departing this summer, marking the end of Jurgen Klopp's remarkable team era. Robertson has established himself as one of the best left-backs in Liverpool’s history. He stated, "Liverpool means everything to me," and believes he will always smile when reflecting on his time at the club.
During his successful tenure on Merseyside, Robertson has won two Premier League titles, the Champions League, the Club World Cup, the UEFA Super Cup, the FA Cup, two Carabao Cups, and the Community Shield. "Leaving a club like Liverpool is never easy; it has been a huge part of my life and my family's life for the last nine years," the 32-year-old said.
He added, "Now is the time for me to move on. I'll always look back on amazing memories at this football club. I've put my heart and soul into the club for nine years and have few regrets. This club will always mean the world to me, as will the fans."
Robertson, who had been appointed vice-captain this season by head coach Arne Slot, lost his position to summer signing Milos Kerkez and expressed a desire for more first-team football. He is set to captain Scotland in their first World Cup since 1998 this summer and had been in talks with Liverpool about a new contract, although he hinted at a possible move.
In January, there was interest from Tottenham for a £5 million deal, but Liverpool chose to respect Robertson and allowed him to discuss the move before deciding against it.
Liverpool FC confirmed on social media, "We can confirm Andy Robertson will bring his Reds career to an end at the conclusion of the current season. He will do so as a Liverpool legend ❤️."
Robertson joined Liverpool in 2017 for a modest £8 million from Hull City. He became a regular during his first season and played in his first of three Champions League finals in 2018. Alongside fellow full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold, he contributed significantly to Klopp's attacking style, recording 69 assists in 373 matches. Only Alexander-Arnold has more Premier League assists among defenders, with 70. However, this season, Robertson has started only six Premier League matches and is eager to be a regular starter next season.
