New Delhi, March 12: Many children often scrunch their noses at nutritious fruits and vegetables. However, vegetables like bottle gourd, bitter gourd, and white pumpkin are commonly found in Indian households and offer numerous health benefits.
Among these, white pumpkin, or ‘ash gourd,’ is traditionally used to make various snacks and sweets.
Surprisingly, few people are aware that its juice is a treasure trove of medicinal properties. Drinking a glass of white pumpkin juice daily can help combat several health issues.
In Ayurveda, white pumpkin is known for its cooling properties, making it an ideal choice during the hot summer months. The juice helps balance the body’s three doshas and boosts energy levels. Regular consumption improves digestion, cools the body, aids in weight loss, and effectively cleanses the kidneys. With 96% water content, white pumpkin also helps keep the body hydrated.
To prepare white pumpkin juice, first peel and chop the pumpkin into large pieces, removing the seeds. Blend it with mint leaves, a pinch of black pepper, and coriander. Strain the mixture through a muslin cloth. It’s best to consume the juice immediately for maximum benefits. For added health advantages, coconut water can be mixed in. Don't discard the leftover pulp; it can be added to yogurt or vegetables as it is rich in fiber, which is beneficial for digestion.
This juice can be consumed on an empty stomach in the morning and evening. Interestingly, daily intake of white pumpkin juice can help lower cholesterol levels.
