New Chandigarh, April 12: In a thrilling encounter of IPL 2026, Punjab Kings (PBKS) defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by six wickets in their 17th match.
Chasing a daunting target of 220 runs set by SRH, PBKS accomplished the feat in just 18.5 overs, losing only four wickets. This marks the largest successful run chase against SRH in IPL history.
Previously, PBKS held the record for the highest chase against SRH, successfully chasing down 206 runs in IPL 2014. However, on Saturday at the Maharaja Yadvindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, they broke their own record. This chase also stands as PBKS's second-largest in IPL history.
PBKS is renowned for its successful run chases, having previously achieved the highest chase in IPL history of 262 runs against Kolkata Knight Riders in 2024. This victory marks the tenth time PBKS has successfully chased a target of over 200 runs in the league.
Captain Shreyas Iyer was the hero of the match, scoring an unbeaten 69 runs off just 33 balls, featuring five fours and five sixes. Priyansh Arya contributed significantly with a quick 57 runs off 20 balls at a strike rate of 285, while Prabhsimran Singh added 51 runs from 25 balls.
After losing the toss, SRH batted first, scoring 219 runs for the loss of six wickets in their 20 overs. Abhishek Sharma was the standout performer for SRH, smashing 74 runs off just 28 balls, including five fours and eight sixes. Travis Head chipped in with 38 runs from 23 balls, while Heinrich Klaasen struggled to make an impact, scoring 39 runs off 33 balls. Captain Ishan Kishan managed 27 runs from 17 balls.
