Aizawl: A citywide mock drill simulating an air raid response was conducted in Aizawl on Wednesday, beginning with a siren from the Deputy Commissioner's Office in the morning.

The drill was part of a nationwide exercise ordered by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, involving 244 Civil Defence Districts, including Aizawl.

The exercise was aimed at assessing emergency preparedness in the event of an aerial attack and testing coordination among key response units. The drill spanned key locations in the city, primarily between the All India Radio (AIR) station at Tuikhuahtlang and Civil Hospital, Aizawl. Civil Defence teams, police, emergency services, and local authorities participated in the simulation.

As part of the mock operation, a temporary blackout has been scheduled for the evening. From 6:30 PM to 6:35 PM, power supply across the capital city will be completely shut off. All residents and establishments have been instructed to cooperate fully. In addition, vehicle owners have been cautioned not to operate their vehicles during the blackout period and to ensure all lights remain off to simulate complete darkness.

Officials said the exercise serves as a preparedness measure and a public awareness initiative, reminding citizens of safety protocols in times of emergency.
