Guwahati: In a major step towards enhancing logistics connectivity and supporting local economies in the Northeast, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has commenced operations of a dedicated Parcel Cargo Express Train (PCET) service between Agartala in Tripura and Sanehwal in Punjab.

The newly introduced service is expected to facilitate the efficient transportation of key regional commodities, including rubber and pineapples, to wider markets across the country.

Aimed at strengthening trade infrastructure in the Northeast, the initiative marks a significant advancement in providing reliable, cost-effective freight solutions to local traders and farmers.

Designated with train numbers 00832/00833, the PCET will operate twice a month, amounting to 144 round trips over a six-year contract period. Initially, the train will consist of 15 parcel vans and one brake van, with plans to expand to 20 parcel vans within six months in response to growing demand.

AVG Logistics Ltd. has secured the lease to operate the train following a transparent and competitive bidding process. The contract is valued at approximately ₹68.95 crore, reflecting a substantial investment towards boosting the region's supply chain capabilities.

NFR officials stated that the initiative is part of Indian Railways' broader vision to promote parcel train services for long-haul freight, while also encouraging more traders in the Northeast to engage with the national freight network. The move is expected to reduce transit times and enhance logistical efficiency, contributing to the region's overall economic development.
