The incident occurred at around 3:00 am, when flames rapidly spread through the facility owned by a Kerala-based rubber manufacturing company. The blaze destroyed large quantities of stored materials, which included raw rubber, machinery, documents, CCTV camera and the GI sheet roofing along with parts of the brick wall of the godown. The financial loss incurred has been estimated at Rs. 7 lakhs while Rs. 3 lakh worth of property has been saved in the inferno.
Fire and Emergency Services teams reached the location and launched an extensive firefighting operation. After several hours of effort, the flames were brought under control at approximately 10:00 am on April 5.
Preliminary assessments suggest that the fire may have been triggered by a short circuit, although authorities have yet to confirm the exact cause.
At the time of the incident, four workers were inside the warehouse. Fortunately, all of them managed to escape safely, avoiding what could have been a far more tragic outcome.
