HYDERABAD: Residents of Allwyn Colony in Kukatpally have asked the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation Commissioner to quickly fix damaged roads and improve sanitation in several parts of the colony.
In particular, they warn that unfinished roadwork and sewage overflow are serious safety and health hazards, especially for school children.
Narayana Jaya Prakash, Vice President of Allwyn Colony Division, explained that roads in Allwyn Colony Phase-1 and Phase-2 were dug up months ago to build new sewer manholes. Although some of the work was finished, the roads were never properly fixed. As a result, the roads are now in very bad shape. Furthermore, ongoing sewage overflow and recent rains have worsened them, creating bumpy surfaces and dangerous conditions for people walking, driving, or riding two-wheelers.
"The worst spots are in Phase-1 Allwyn Colony near Shivanagar X Road and Jalakanya Hotel, where a long piece of road was dug up for sewer manholes and left unfinished for months," said Narayana Jaya Prakash to HyderabadMail. Adding to the concern, there are several primary schools nearby, and the road's poor condition poses a significant risk to children and others. Similarly, another problem area is the road near Sandhya Sarovar-1 and 2 in Aditya Nagar, Phase-2, Allwyn Colony, which many students use to reach schools such as Vasara and SSD.

Unfinished sewer work leaves roads in poor condition
In a letter to Commissioner Dr. G. Srijana, Narayana Jaya Prakash said, Even though the manhole work is done, the road has not been repaired. As a result, this has caused serious traffic problems. Additionally, the lane near London Kids School in Tulasi Nagar, Phase-2, is also affected. Here, rainwater mixed with sewage has formed stagnant pools, bad smells, and spots where mosquitoes breed.
Residents say several people have gotten minor injuries from using these unsafe roads. In addition, the unfinished roadwork connecting Road No. 1 and Road No. 2 of Allwyn Colony Phase-2 with Sai Nagar has also made life harder. Many people use these roads as the shortest way to the Sai Baba Temple and nearby areas.
Residents have asked the Corporation to quickly start cleaning and mosquito control in the affected areas, fix the broken roads so people can travel safely, repair sewer leaks and stop sewage overflow, and fully restore and resurface all the damaged roads as soon as possible. Without these actions, the problems are likely to get worse.
Because of the danger to school children and the trouble for thousands of residents, people have asked the Commissioner to act quickly before something bad happens. Urgent intervention could help prevent further harm and inconvenience.
