HYDERABAD: MBA graduate turns to theft as profession

An MBA gold medallist who allegedly took to theft as a profession was arrested by police in Choutuppal of Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district on Wednesday.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Patolla Madhusudan Reddy said the accused, Mikkili Vamsi Krishna alias Sam Richard, is a native of Vetapalem in Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh.

He had earlier moved to Hyderabad and lived in Mansoorabad, where he ran several businesses before turning to theft.

Accused linked to 62 theft cases across districts

Police said Vamsi Krishna targeted locked houses during daytime and was involved in 62 theft cases across Hyderabad, Khammam, Nalgonda and Adilabad districts.

He had been arrested multiple times earlier and sent to jail but resumed theft after release.

On February 22, after appearing in a court in Khammam, he allegedly broke into the house of Lingampalli Narasimha in Kanthamaheshwar Colony at Valigonda crossroads in Choutuppal and stole ₹14.20 lakh in cash.

Arrest during vehicle check, cash and devices seized

Following a complaint, police registered a case and began an inquiry. On Wednesday morning, while the accused was travelling in a rented self-drive car to attend a court hearing in Khammam, police intercepted the vehicle during checks at Dharmojigudem in Choutuppal mandal.

On suspicion, he was detained and questioned. He confessed to the theft at Narasimha's residence, police said.

Police seized ₹7 lakh in cash, a car, two mobile phones, a laptop and a camera from him. They also froze ₹2.28 lakh in his bank account.

The accused was produced before a court and later shifted to Nalgonda jail.

Police said he spent stolen money on travel and leisure, moved with bouncers, and also engaged in charity by helping poor people and supporting orphaned children's education.

Officials, including Circle Inspector Manmatha Kumar, CCS Circle Inspector Praveen Babu, and Sub-Inspectors Yadagiri, Vanam Saidulu and Kumaraswamy, were present at the press briefing.
