HYDERABAD: C.V. Anand is likely to be appointed the next Director General of Police (DGP) of Telangana, according to government sources.
The state government has sent a list of four senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officers to the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for consideration. Among them, 1991 batch IPS officer C.V. Anand is the senior-most and is believed to be the state government's preferred choice.
The other officers in the list are Vinayak Prabhakar Apte, Soumya Mishra and Shikha Goel.

Final shortlist to be sent to state government
A UPSC empanelment committee will meet in Delhi on Wednesday to examine the names. Telangana Chief Secretary Ramakrishna Rao is also a member of the committee and will attend the meeting.
After reviewing the list submitted by the state government, the UPSC will send a final panel of three names to the state government in accordance with Supreme Court guidelines. The state government will appoint one officer from the panel as the full-time DGP.
Current DGP's tenure ends next month
The tenure of the current DGP Shivdhar Reddy will end at the end of April. The state government is expected to complete the appointment process before that.
The Supreme Court had earlier directed that the guidelines issued in the Prakash Singh case on the appointment of DGPs must be followed. The court also said that if state governments delay the process, the UPSC should send reminders and inform the court if there is no response.
Last month, the UPSC wrote to ten states, including Telangana, regarding the appointment of new DGPs.
