Hyderabad: Hyderabad Police Commissioner V C Sajjanar on Monday urged citizens to celebrate Holi peacefully and warned of strict action against those causing inconvenience to others.

Visible policing to prevent incidents

Reviewing arrangements through a video conference from the Telangana Integrated Command and Control Centre in Banjara Hills, Sajjanar directed officers to ensure visible policing to prevent untoward incidents. Blue Colts and patrolling teams have been asked to maintain continuous vigil.

He said police would not tolerate forcing colours on those unwilling to participate. People have been advised not to throw colours on pedestrians or vehicles in public places.

She Teams to monitor harassment

Sajjanar said She Teams in plainclothes will monitor the city to curb harassment of women. He advised the public to use natural colours instead of chemical-based ones.

He said DJs will not be permitted during celebrations. Vehicles of youth found creating nuisance on roads in groups will be seized.

Extra bandobast in sensitive areas

With Ramzan under way, Sajjanar said police must ensure that Muslim prayers are not disrupted. He asked officers to coordinate with peace committees and deploy additional bandobast in sensitive areas.

Liquor shops, toddy compounds and bars and restaurants will remain closed from 6am to 6pm on Tuesday within the Hyderabad Commissionerate limits, he said.

He warned that cases will be booked under the City Police Act against those violating norms during Holi. Citizens have been asked to dial 100 in case of any law and order issue and cooperate with police to celebrate the festival peacefully.

Among those who attended the meeting were Additional Commissioner of Police Tafseer Iqbal, Joint Commissioners Shwetha and S M Vijay Kumar, and Deputy Commissioners Khare Kiran Prabhakar, Rupesh and Venkata Lakshmi, among others.
