JAGTIAL: Bandari Vijaya, a farmer from Pembedla village in Sarangapur mandal of Jagtial district, has been selected for a national best woman farmer award.

She will receive the award at a programme in Delhi on the 15th, organised to mark National Women's Farmers Day, according to the source report.

Although she could not pursue much formal education, Vijaya took responsibility for running the family and became a source of support for them. She began modern farming on eight acres and has cultivated a range of vegetables, fruits such as apple ber, and flowers including marigolds and chrysanthemums for the past 10 years.

Her farming activities have earned her recognition as a model farmer.

Direct sales and natural farming methods

During summer, Vijaya cultivates muskmelons and watermelons and sells the produce directly to corporate retailers such as BigBasket, Reliance and More in Hyderabad.

She also markets her produce through social media platforms such as WhatsApp, Facebook and YouTube. A notable feature of her farming is her preference for natural farming methods without using chemicals.
