Telangana : K. Kavitha has moved the Delhi High Court seeking a direction to the Election Commission of India (ECI) to allot the name Telangana Rakshana Samithi to her political party.
Court asks Kavitha to first respond to Election Commission
In her petition, Kavitha said the ECI had sent a letter on June 23 raising objections to the proposed party name. She told the court that the Commission had asked her to suggest alternative names and stated that the new name should not result in the abbreviation "TRS".
High Court declines to intervene at this stage
The Delhi High Court observed that the proposed name Telangana Rakshana Sena could also convey the abbreviation "TRS". It asked Kavitha to submit an appropriate reply to the ECI's notice before approaching the court.

The court further said entertaining the petition at this stage would amount to interfering with the Election Commission's statutory functions. It advised Kavitha to first complete the process before the ECI and then seek judicial relief, if necessary.
