Ola Electric ordered to refund ₹1.3 lakh over faulty scooter in Ranga Reddy

HYDERABAD: The Ranga Reddy District Consumer Commission has directed Ola Electric Technologies to refund ₹1,19,999 along with ₹7,243 towards insurance, with 9% interest, to a consumer for selling a defective electric scooter.

The Commission also ordered the company to pay ₹5,000 as compensation for inconvenience and ₹5,000 towards litigation costs, taking the total payout to about ₹1.37 lakh.

Complaint over repeated defects

Real estate brokers held for mortgage fraud in Hyderabad

The complaint was filed by P. Santosh Reddy, a resident of Nallagandla, who purchased an Ola S1 Air 3 kWh electric scooter on November 9, 2023, for ₹1,19,999.

According to the complaint, the scooter developed issues within days of purchase. It allegedly stopped abruptly in traffic while being ridden, posing a safety risk and affecting the complainant's daily commute.

Service centre failed to fix issue

Reddy took the vehicle multiple times to the company's service centre in Uppal. However, the problem persisted despite repeated visits.

He argued that the recurring defects made the scooter unreliable and unsafe for regular use, prompting him to approach the District Consumer Commission.

Commission finds deficiency in service

After examining the case, the Commission held that the scooter suffered from quality defects and was not fit for proper use.

It also found Ola Electric deficient in service for failing to rectify the issue despite multiple repair attempts.

Based on these findings, the Commission ordered a refund, compensation, and litigation costs in favour of the complainant.
