HYDERABAD: The Telangana government has placed top priority on a ₹98,000 crore road development programme. Deputy Chief Minister Vikramarka and Roads & Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkata Reddy have directed officials to accelerate execution.
At a recent infrastructure review meeting, the ministers said the scale of construction is unprecedented in the history of the undivided state. They also emphasised that the government aims to make Telangana the leading state in road infrastructure by 2028 under Chief Minister Revanth Reddy.
IRC Conference to Boost Investment Prospects
Meanwhile, Komatireddy Venkata Reddy announced that the Indian Roads Congress (IRC) conference will take place in November 2026 at HITEX, Hyderabad. Despite stiff competition from other states, Telangana secured the event.

He added that the conference will attract contractors, policymakers, and experts from across India and abroad. Moreover, Mohan Nayak from Telangana has been elected as the IRC president. According to the minister, the event could bring investments exceeding ₹20,000 crore.
Village Connectivity and Highway Expansion
In addition, the government has approved ₹148 crore for approach roads to improve connectivity in nearly 300 villages. The minister criticised the previous administration for neglecting such infrastructure.
Under the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM), the state will develop around 6,000 km of roads at a cost of ₹13,000 crore. Officials have already finalised price bids, and construction will begin shortly.
Furthermore, authorities are upgrading the Hyderabad-Vijayawada national highway into an eight-lane corridor at a cost of ₹20,000 crore. The project will include six main lanes along with two service lanes.
Flyovers, Greenfield Corridor and Strategic Projects
To address accident-prone zones, the government has allocated ₹500 crore to build flyovers and bridges at black spots such as Choutuppal and Chityal.
At the same time, planners have proposed a ₹20,000 crore greenfield road connecting Future City to Amaravati-Bandar Port. Officials have already submitted alignment proposals to the Centre. Additionally, the proposal includes a parallel bullet train corridor.
Major Corridors and Ring Road Development
The government has sanctioned ₹8,000 crore for a 52-km elevated corridor from Mannanur to Srisailam. Similarly, it has taken up the Regional Ring Road (RRR) project at an estimated cost of ₹36,000 crore.
The state has already deposited ₹628 crore with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) for land acquisition in the northern section. Meanwhile, authorities are constructing a double-decker elevated corridor from LB Nagar to Hayathnagar at a cost of ₹941 crore, with contributions from both the Centre and the state.
In parallel, the government is widening village roads and upgrading single-lane roads into double lanes to strengthen rural connectivity.
Focus on Road Safety After Rising Fatalities
However, the minister raised concerns over road safety, noting that around 6,500 people died in road accidents in 2025. Therefore, the government has launched safety initiatives alongside infrastructure expansion, including the "Arrive Alive" programme.
Infrastructure Push to Drive Growth
Finally, Komatireddy Venkata Reddy said improved road infrastructure will attract industries and generate employment for local youth. He also thanked Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka for supporting the projects and securing the IRC event.
