Telangana moves vehicle registrations online, 68,000 processed via VAHAN

HYDERABAD: Telangana has processed over 68,000 vehicle registrations online as the State accelerates its transition to the VAHAN portal, marking a shift towards fully digital transport services.

The platform, developed by the National Informatics Centre, is being rolled out in phases and is expected to stabilise fully within 15 days, Transport Commissioner K Illambarthi said.

Data available till April 23 shows that 68,846 temporary registrations (TRs) have been generated through the VAHAN system across the State. Officials said the figures reflect strong early adoption by vehicle dealers and citizens.

The 'Fancy Number' module has been operationalised, enabling users to reserve preferred registration numbers online. A total of 1,880 bookings have been completed so far, reducing manual intervention and improving transparency.

Over 23,000 vehicles receive permanent registration numbers

The Transport Department has issued 23,705 permanent registration numbers through the VAHAN portal, indicating steady progress in migrating core services online.

Officials said approval rates and processing efficiency have improved in recent days. Initial pendency at verification and inspection levels is being addressed through continuous monitoring and daily reviews.

With ongoing technical support from the National Informatics Centre and phased activation of additional modules, the system is expected to achieve full operational stability within two weeks.

The department thanked vehicle dealers, citizens and other stakeholders for their cooperation during the transition. It reiterated its commitment to transparent, efficient and hassle-free service delivery.
