TGSRTC becomes India's first transport body to use AI

TGSRTC becomes India's first transport body to use AI

HyderabadMail.com 8 months ago

HYDERABAD: The initiative aims to improve efficiency, cut costs, enhance commuter convenience, and support employee welfare. TGSRTC has partnered with Hansa Equity Partners LLP to roll out the project across all depots, with the firm providing technical expertise, planning, and specialised training for staff.

AI to monitor employee health and services

One key focus is employee health. Under the Grand Health Challenge, medical records of over 40,000 employees are being analysed using AI and Machine Learning to identify risks and encourage preventive care. After a successful pilot across six depots, the initiative is now being scaled up.

The corporation is also preparing to launch AI-driven, demand-based bus scheduling. The models will study traffic flows, festivals, weekly travel trends, and passenger demand to optimise fleet use and reduce wastage.

Officials said AI tools will additionally track staff performance, streamline operations, and minimise costs while delivering faster, commuter-friendly services.

Presentation to minister, officials

A detailed presentation on the project was made to Transport and Backward Classes Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar at Dr B.R. Ambedkar Secretariat. Special Chief Secretary for Transport and Roads Vikas Raj, TGSRTC Managing Director V.C. Sajjanar and senior officials were present.

Prabhakar said AI is reshaping industries worldwide and lauded TGSRTC's "forward-looking" approach. He called for collaborative execution to ensure long-term success. He also felicitated Trinadha Babu and Suneel Regulla of Hansa Equity Partners for their contributions under the Strategic Deployment Plan (SDP), introduced in 2021 as part of the firm's corporate social responsibility.

'Benchmark for Indian public transport'

TGSRTC said the AI project builds on the SDP, which has aligned the corporation with modern transport needs, strengthened financial sustainability and advanced digital transformation.

Managing Director Sajjanar said AI adoption is a "strategic leap" to prepare for future challenges. "AI integration will significantly improve speed, transparency and accuracy of services while enabling smart scheduling to meet passenger demand," he said.

The review meeting was attended by executive directors Munishekar, Khushrosha Khan, Venkanna, and Rajasekhar, Chief Traffic Manager Sridevi, Chief Personnel Manager Ushadevi, Chief Engineer (IT) Sridevi, and other senior officials.
