Warangal textile park set for opening

WARANGAL: The Kakatiya Mega Textile Park in Geesugonda is ready for inauguration after funds were released post-2015, allowing construction to progress.

Project gains pace after delayed fund releases

Land for the park was acquired in 2016 and the foundation stone was laid in 2017. The project spans 1,337 acres. The then Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government had said it would be completed within a year and generate 60,000 jobs. However, the work was delayed for years and local farmers who gave land did not receive jobs, leading to protests.

Though companies such as Ganesha Eco and Youngone set up units, employment generation remained limited. The state government did not allocate adequate funds, slowing progress.

Centre backs park under PM MITRA scheme

The Centre later included the project under the PM MITRA scheme, allocating ₹4,445 crore for textile parks nationwide. The Kakatiya park was selected along with projects in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh.

Under the brownfield category, the Centre allocated ₹200 crore in the first phase. This revived construction activity. The scheme follows a "farm to fibre, fibre to factory, factory to fashion, fashion to foreign" approach.

Project to generate over 24,000 jobs

Development works worth ₹1,695 crore have been taken up. About 62% of the land has been allotted to industries. Infrastructure including roads, water supply, street lighting and internet connectivity has been completed.

Dedicated power infrastructure includes substations and 220 kV transmission lines. A 12 MLD water supply system has been set up, along with a 5 MLD common effluent treatment plant with zero liquid discharge under trial.

Companies such as Ganesha Eco and Youngone have begun production. Kitex is preparing to start operations. Training programmes are underway for hundreds of workers.

The Centre and state governments said the project will generate 24,400 jobs. Currently, about 2,000 people are employed. Investments worth ₹3,842 crore have already been made, with projections of up to ₹6,000 crore.

With works nearing completion, the park is set to be inaugurated virtually by the Prime Minister.
