The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) ended their 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) playoff quest with a loss to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), leaving them in seventh place with only 10 points from 12 games.
SRH managed to secure a win but still held an eighth place with nine points from the same number of matches. Mumbai Indians (MI) and Delhi Capitals (DC) now have a chance of claiming the last playoff spot.
LSG started their match with great energy. Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram put together an impressive 115-run partnership, striking at nearly 11 runs an over. Their bold batting initially raised hopes for a big score. However, SRH's bowlers changed the game later, using the older ball to slow down LSG's scoring and limiting them to 205 runs. While this was a formidable total on a pitch suited for batters, it ultimately fell short of what they needed.

SRH’s Batting Blitz Secures Victory

In a gripping match, SRH’s batting lineup put on an impressive show, with Abhishek Sharma leading the way. His aggressive batting set the stage for the team's chase. Heinrich Klaasen stepped up too, scoring 24 runs off just 11 balls, which included two boundaries and a six. He partnered with Kamindu Mendis, and together, they added 55 runs in 36 balls, steadily taking control of the game.
There were a few nail-biting moments towards the end. Klaasen was out for 47 after getting caught off Shardul Thakur, and Kamindu had to retire hurt due to what looked like a hamstring injury while running. Thankfully, by that point, SRH was close to victory. With only nine runs left to chase, they finished the game swiftly.
In just three balls from the 13 they had remaining, SRH wrapped up the match, delivering a solid win, which sadly dashed LSG's playoff hopes after a season that had started with so much potential.
