Rishabh Pant, the captain of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), recently spoke out about the need for more responsible reporting, particularly when it comes to sensitive subjects.
His comments came in response to a social media post on X, where a journalist suggested that the team might let him go after a disappointing IPL 2025 season. Frustrated, Pant stressed the importance of credible journalism, pointing out that fake news driven by hidden agendas only causes harm.
On May 22, he shared his thoughts on X, saying, “I know fake news tends to get more attention, but let's not base everything on that. Having a little common sense and sharing credible news is far more helpful. Let’s try to be responsible and sensible with what we share online.” The journalist responded, suggesting that Pant might not have the final say in team decisions and that the franchise’s management would determine his future.
Rishabh Pant’s Tough IPL Season Draws Criticism

LSG picked up Rishabh Pant during the big auction in November 2024 for ₹27 lakh, but this season has not gone as hoped for him. At 27 years old, he has only managed to score 135 runs over 12 matches, with a strike rate of just 100. That's quite disappointing, given his reputation as a skilled player. His performance has caught the eye of critics, including former New Zealand bowler Simon Doull. On Cricbuzz, Doull noted that Pant’s abilities in T20 have always seemed to be a step behind where they need to be.
Doull mentioned that this is Pant’s least impressive format, and there was a lot of effort to bring him on board. However, he’s had a pretty disappointing season and hasn’t met the expectations fans have of him. So far, he’s only been an average player in T20 matches. This has sparked worries about his future with the team, especially since LSG has been facing challenges with their performance this season.
They still have two matches left-one against the Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad and a home game against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Lucknow on May 27. We will see if Pant will keep his spot in the leadership group going forward.
