Indorama Corporation to Invest $525 Million in Fertilizer Complex in Egypt

10 April 2026, Egypt: Indorama Corporation has signed an agreement to establish a phosphate fertilizers and chemicals complex in Egypt, with an initial investment of US$525 million.

The project marks a significant expansion of industrial capacity within the country's fertilizer and downstream chemicals sector.

The facility, to be developed under the name "Indorama Egypt Fertilizers," will be located in the Ain Sokhna Industrial Area within the Suez Canal Economic Zone. The agreement was formalized in the presence of Mostafa Madbouly, along with Karim Badawi and Walid Gamal El-Din. The contract was signed by Mustafa Sheikhoun, representing the zone's investment authority, and Mukul Agrawal, Country Head for Egypt at Indorama Corporation.

The project will be developed on a 522,000 square metre site. During the construction phase, it is expected to generate around 500 jobs, with up to 2,500 roles anticipated once the facility becomes operational.

In its first phase, the complex will have an annual production capacity of up to 600,000 tonnes. The output will include phosphate fertilizers as well as related chemical products. Around 80 percent of production is expected to be exported, positioning Egypt as a supply base for regional and international markets.

According to Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, the investment adds to Egypt's strategic industries, particularly in fertilizers and mineral resource-based sectors, while supporting employment generation and industrial development. Officials from the Suez Canal Economic Zone noted that the project reflects continued interest from global companies in capital-intensive and technology-driven manufacturing investments.
