07 April 2026, Brussels: FMC Corporation has announced that its herbicide active ingredient Isoflex®, the trade name for bixlozone has received regulatory approval in the European Union, marking a significant step in the company's global commercialization strategy.
The approval enables FMC to move forward with the introduction of formulated products across more than 55 million hectares of major crops in the EU, including cereals, corn, oilseed rape, and potato. The company has already submitted product dossiers for these crops and, subject to further regulatory clearances, expects commercial launches beginning in 2027.
Sebastià Pons, President of FMC EMEA, stated that the approval addresses a growing gap in weed management solutions across the region. He noted that since 2019, European farmers have lost access to over 20 herbicide active ingredients, increasing the urgency for new solutions. According to him, the approval strengthens FMC's ability to bring advanced crop protection technologies to market and support agricultural productivity in Europe.
Isoflex® active has been classified as a Group 13 herbicide by the Herbicide Resistance Action Committee. It offers long-lasting control of key grass weeds as well as a broad spectrum of broadleaf weeds. Importantly, it introduces a new mode of action in cereals, helping farmers manage herbicide-resistant weed populations and safeguard crop yields.
FMC's EU rollout builds on its existing global footprint for Isoflex®-based products, which are already registered and commercialized in countries including Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Chile, China, Great Britain, Pakistan, Uruguay, and India. Field performance across these markets has demonstrated flexibility in application timing, including pre-plant, pre-emergence, and early post-emergence use in crops such as cereals, cotton, oilseed rape, rice, and pulses.
The company continues to invest in research and development to expand the use of Isoflex® active into additional crops and agricultural segments, reinforcing its long-term pipeline in crop protection.
