Netflix has officially confirmed that its upcoming anime remake The One Piece will release in February 2027. The new series is a reimagined adaptation of Eiichiro Oda's globally popular manga and will be produced in collaboration with WIT Studio, known for high-profile projects like Attack on Titan and Spy x Family.
The first season will reportedly consist of seven episodes, covering around 50 chapters of the manga. It will focus on the East Blue saga, introducing Monkey D. Luffy's early journey and the formation of the Straw Hat Pirates, including key characters like Zoro, Nami, Usopp, and Sanji.
Unlike the long-running Toei Animation series, this remake aims to deliver a refreshed visual style and tighter storytelling format. Each episode is expected to run longer than standard anime episodes, with the season totalling roughly 300 minutes.
The creative team includes director Masashi Koizuka and assistant director Hideaki Abe, alongside experienced character designers and animation directors such as Kyoji Asano and Takatoshi Honda. The production is being handled in partnership with Shueisha, Fuji Television Network, Toei Animation, and Netflix.
The original One Piece manga began in 1997 and has since become one of the best-selling manga series in history, surpassing 600 million copies in circulation. The anime adaptation launched in 1999 and has now crossed 1,000 episodes, following Luffy's ongoing quest for the legendary treasure known as the One Piece.
Netflix has already expanded the franchise with a live-action adaptation that premiered in 2023, which has also continued with multiple seasons in production. The upcoming anime remake adds another major layer to the franchise's global expansion strategy, aiming to introduce the story to a new generation of viewers with a modernised retelling of its earliest arcs.
