To ease administrative reform and improve urban policing, the Telangana government has reorganized police administration in the Hyderabad Metropolitan Region.
As part of this move, four police commissionerates have been created to manage growing urban and suburban areas more effectively.
The reorganisation follows the expansion of GHMC limits and the creation of Future City. It is linked to the Telangana Rising Vision document released during the Telangana Rising Global Summit held on December 9, which focuses on region based development planning.
Under this framework, the state has been divided into CURE, PURE and RARE regions with specific development strategies. Based on this plan, 27 municipalities beyond the ORR were added to GHMC, which has now been reorganized into 12 zones, 60 circles and 300 wards.
With the civic structure expanded, the police department has also been restructured accordingly. Policing in Hyderabad will now be handled by Hyderabad Commissionerate, Cyberabad Commissionerate, Malkajgiri Commissionerate and the newly formed Future City Commissionerate.
Hyderabad Commissionerate will cover key areas such as the State Assembly, Begumpet, Secretariat, Shamshabad Airport and Budvel High Court. Cyber City Commissionerate will oversee major IT and industrial zones across western Hyderabad.
These include Gachibowli, Financial District, Nanakramguda, Madhapur, Raidurg, Patancheru, Genome Valley, Ramachandrapuram and Ameenpur. These regions have seen rapid growth in population and commercial activity.
Malkajgiri Commissionerate, carved out of Rachakonda, will include areas such as Keesara, Qutbullapur, Shamirpet and Kompally. Yadagiri-Bhongir has been separated from the commissionerate and placed under district level SP administration.
The Future City Commissionerate will cover developing regions including Chevella, Moinabad, Shankarpally, Malleswaram and Ibrahimpatnam. Senior IPS officers have been reassigned to head each unit as part of the reorganisation.
G Sudheer Babu, earlier CP of Rachakonda, has been appointed as the first Commissioner of Future City. Avinash Mohanty will head Malkajgiri, Dr M Ramesh will lead Cyberabad, and Akshansh Yadav will serve as Commissioner of Yadagiri-Bhongir, while VC Sajjanar continues as Hyderabad Commissioner.
