A film like Paanch, banned more than two decades ago for its supposed violent content, from Anurag Kashyap will find a release in theaters in 2025. This was once a contentious movie, but after all these years freely available on YouTube, many are asking if it remains necessary.
Paanch, based on the Joshi-Abhyankar murders, was banned by censors in 2001 due to its being too realistic about crime. Underground screenings and Internet leaks helped the film gain cult status, despite the ban.
One Dialogue Shatters 500 Crore Dream
Paanch will likely be seen as something of a relic of the past, as bold themes are fast becoming a staple of streaming services. Access online has also helped mitigate calls for a theatrical re-release.
While the most viewers may view it as an anachronism, film lovers may well appreciate seeing Kashyap's early work again. The movie might not see much light of day today as is.
Tamannaah To Make Big Announcement Soon
Paanch is important because it happens to be Kashyap's first film, the 2025 release doesn't seem all that necessary. The theatrical venture seems more of a ceremonial act than an occasion.
