Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu gave clarity on building medical colleges through the PPP model. Speaking at the Collectors' conference, he said PPP is a suitable option to deliver better services.

He expressed anger over allegations claiming the colleges were being privatised.

Chandrababu said that although the medical colleges are being constructed under the PPP model, they will function as government colleges. He said the state government will decide all guidelines related to these institutions. He made it clear that government control will remain.

He said 70% of students will receive NTR medical facilities at these colleges. Chandrababu added that the number of seats has been increased. He said Rs 500 crore was wasted on building the Rushikonda palace.

The CM said the same amount could have been used to build two medical colleges. He said the Rushikonda palace has now turned into a white elephant. He added that such spending decisions caused losses to the state.

Chandrababu said the Central government is also executing projects under the PPP model. He said his government will not get bogged down by criticism. He stated that it is the government's duty to present facts to people.

He questioned critics by asking whether roads laid under the PPP model belong to private individuals. Chandrababu said the past government made many mistakes. He said they failed to pay monthly salaries.

He said the previous government borrowed loans at very high interest rates. Interest of 13-14% has become a burden on the state. Chandrababu added that establishment spending was sharply increased earlier.

The CM said the present government is now re-scheduling loans into small, medium and long-term plans. He said this approach is needed to manage finances better and reduce pressure on the state.
