No Green Signal? Jana Nayagan Mystery Deepens

Vijay's final film Jana Nayagan, directed by H Vinoth, continues to face uncertainty over its release. The film was initially scheduled for January 9th.

However, censorship certificate issues forced a postponement, and a new release date is still unclear.

KVN Productions filed an emergency case against the CBFC board over the delay. After the second hearing on January 9th, a Madras High Court judge directed the CBFC to grant a U/A certificate. The CBFC challenged this order immediately.

Following the appeal, the Madras High Court Chief Justice ruled in favour of the CBFC. An interim stay was placed on the release of Jana Nayagan. This decision stalled all release plans once again.

KVN Productions then approached the Supreme Court against the High Court ruling. After hearing the matter, the Supreme Court asked the Jana Nayagan team to continue proceedings in the Madras High Court. The case was sent back accordingly.

The censorship hearing was held again today at the Madras High Court. The Jana Nayagan team argued that the film was submitted on December 18th and later resubmitted with suggested changes. Despite this, no final certificate was issued.

They pointed out that there was no response from the CBFC between December 25th and January 5th. This delay forced the production house to seek legal intervention. They also stated that the postponement caused losses of nearly 50 crores.

After hearing both sides, the Chief Justice chose to reserve the judgment. The hearing was adjourned without a final decision. This has further prolonged the uncertainty around the film.

No official clarification has been given on the exact objections raised by the CBFC. Some Kollywood trackers on social media claim concerns relate to the portrayal of the Armed Forces. Others suggest certain scenes may disturb religious harmony.

There is still no confirmation on when the final judgment will be delivered. Industry experts believe it could take up to a week. Until then, Jana Nayagan's release remains on hold.
