Supreme Court Shocks One Of Biggest Films!

One of the biggest Tamil films lined up for 2026, Jana Nayagan, starring Thalapathi Vijay in the lead role, was scheduled for a Sankranti theatrical release.

The film was expected to arrive in cinemas on January 9.

However, the release was postponed indefinitely due to delays in obtaining censor certification. This unexpected hurdle disrupted the makers' release plans at the last moment.

In response, the makers approached the Supreme Court of India seeking timely clearance through a court order. They hoped the intervention would help secure certification without further delay.

The ruling, however, did not favour the film. The Supreme Court declined to issue relief directly, which came as a setback to the makers and those associated with the project.

Instead, the court instructed the makers to approach a divisional bench of the Madras High Court. The file was sent back rather than being decided on its own merit by the apex court.

The issue primarily revolves around certification. While the censor board is reportedly ready to grant an A certificate, the makers are pushing for a U/A certificate and are pursuing all legal options.

Despite approaching the Supreme Court in this matter, the decision has not gone in their favour so far. The legal battle continues as the makers await clarity.

The Supreme Court has now directed the Madras High Court to deliver a judgement by January 20. It remains to be seen whether this timeline will help Jana Nayagan secure clearance and aim for a late January release.
