A key development has emerged in the murder case of former minister YS Vivekananda Reddy. His daughter Sunitha approached the Nampally CBI court seeking a complete investigation into the case.
The court announced its decision on Wednesday.
Sunitha's lawyers said a full investigation was necessary to prevent the real accused from escaping. They asked the court to direct the CBI to file a supplementary charge sheet in the case. They also said more sensational details would surface if the probe continued.
The lawyers for the accused said there was no need to extend the investigation. After hearing both sides, the court allowed only a partial investigation. This order focused mainly on a key phone conversation linked to the case.
Sunitha's lawyer told the court that an important call took place between Kiran, the brother of Sunil Yadav who is A2 in the case, and Arjun Reddy, the son of the brother of YS Bhaskar Reddy. The court directed the CBI to investigate these phone conversations.
Sunitha sought a full re-investigation, but the court permitted only a limited inquiry into this specific call. The CBI is likely to conclude the investigation after examining the phone records. It will be unfortunate if this call does not reveal evidence needed to solve the murder.
The investigation would have ended earlier if not for Sunitha's persistence in court. Many believed the probe would reach a conclusion after TDP came to power as suspicion remained on YSR Congress. Yet nothing significant happened.
On June 30th 2023, the CBI filed the second chargesheet in the YS Vivekananda Reddy murder case. The investigation stalled after that. The CBI had informed the courts that more inquiry was needed to uncover a wider conspiracy but no progress has been made in two years.
A key question now is how Jagan is able to influence the Centre to slow the investigation even though TDP is part of the NDA.
