Phone Tapping Case To Be Handed Over to CBI. The Telangana government believes there is more to the story than what has come out so far.
Revanth Reddy earlier admitted that phone tapping was also done by his government in the past.
The case was earlier investigated by the SIT. Now, senior officials have consulted legal experts on the matter. The government feels the issue should go to the CBI because ordinary citizens' phones were tapped and linked to Maoists.
According to Telangana officials, the past BRS government misled the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India. Phones of Union Ministers, advocates and Governors were also tapped. This makes it a matter fit for a central inquiry by the CBI.
The main accused is former IPS officer Prabhakar Rao, who has remained silent so far. Since he has not disclosed any details, those truly behind the phone tapping remain unknown. Telangana government is preparing to write to the Union Home Ministry to transfer the case to the CBI.
