The ruling Congress party delivered a strong performance in the recently concluded panchayat elections. However, the results fell short of expectations.
Telangana CM Revanth Reddy expressed dissatisfaction over internal conflicts among Congress leaders in certain areas.
According to Congress sources, the CM has issued a warning to 16 MLAs from three districts. He is also reportedly unhappy with the performance of constituency incharges. During a tele-conference, Revanth Reddy blamed them for favouring relatives and poor coordination.
The CM is now focusing on the upcoming MPTC and ZPTC elections. His aim is to ensure unity among Congress leaders, strengthen the party structure, and rein in rebel leaders. Steps in this direction have already begun.
Revanth Reddy recently held a meeting with Ministers at the Command Control Center. Sources say that along with instructions, the CM delivered what is being described as a "sweet warning" to the Ministers. The message was firm but measured.
The Telangana Assembly sessions are scheduled to begin on December 29. Issues such as MPTC and ZPTC elections, PACs elections, municipal corporation polls, and the proposed 42% BC reservations are expected to be discussed.
The TG government had proposed 42% reservations for BCs in panchayatraj elections. However, following a High Court stay that capped reservations at 50%, the government proceeded with the existing reservation framework.
The Telangana government plans to raise the issue in Parliament during the winter session. There are also plans to stage dharnas in Delhi to press for the demand. The matter is expected to remain politically active.
Meanwhile, there is buzz that CM Revanth Reddy has submitted a report on underperforming MLAs to the High Command. Ministers have been given the target of ensuring victory for ZPTC chairmen in 32 districts, including the Siricilla ZPTC chairman seat.
The CM has also set a target of winning 566 MPP seats. Ministers were instructed to ensure Congress victories even in the strongholds of KCR, KTR, and Harish Rao. Failure to meet these targets could reportedly cost Ministers their berths, according to Congress insiders.
