Although several leaders lobbied for the seat, including late PJR's son Vishnuvardhan Reddy and former cricketer Azharuddin, Revanth Reddy decided to field Naveen Yadav. Naveen has a strong connection with people across all sections in the Jubilee Hills constituency, making him the ideal pick.

The next smart move was offering Azharuddin a Cabinet berth just before the election. This decision turned out to be a masterstroke for the Congress high command and Revanth Reddy. Minority votes remained united and did not split, which helped Congress consolidate the minority vote bank. The informal understanding with AIMIM also worked in Congress' favour and reinforced the party's image among minority communities.
