Tamilaga Vetri Kalagam chief Vijay is in Delhi to appear before the CBI in connection with the Karur incident. He arrived on Monday morning, while party cadre requested security for him during his stay in the national capital.
The case relates to a tragic stampede during Vijay's public meeting at Karur, where 41 people lost their lives. The incident caused outrage at the time, mainly over the delay in his response. Following Supreme Court orders, the CBI took over the investigation.
Investigating officers earlier visited the incident spot and collected relevant data. After reviewing the findings, the CBI issued summons to Vijay, asking him to appear for questioning in the matter.
The development comes at a crucial time, as Vijay's film Jana Nayagan is set for release during Sankranti. The timing has sparked curiosity among Thalapathy fans, TVK supporters, and political observers.
Vijay remains one of the biggest stars in Tamil cinema. Like several Tamil superstars before him, he has now stepped into politics and is testing his prospects in Tamil Nadu, with ambitions of becoming the state's Chief Minister in the upcoming Assembly elections.
