TG Congress Ready to Strike, KCR to Assembly?

On Friday, KCR and Harish Rao held a one-on-one meeting to discuss the future strategy. After this, the BRS chief reportedly instructed his MLAs on how to respond to the Kaleshwaram report during the Assembly sessions.

The Telangana Assembly sessions began on Saturday. On the first day, tributes were paid to leaders such as Maganti Gopinath before the House was adjourned. The Kaleshwaram discussion is expected to follow.

Though KCR has not attended the Assembly since losing power, he did appear before the Kaleshwaram commission. Now, BRS members believe he might finally step into the Assembly. Party insiders feel keeping silent would send wrong signals to the people of Telangana, and KCR could use this chance to highlight the advantages of the Kaleshwaram project.

Revanth Reddy's team is reportedly preparing to corner KCR if he attends in person. The BRS has already demanded a copy of the report before the discussion and approached the Assembly secretary for the same.

The Revanth Reddy government has also formed another committee with the law secretary, irrigation secretary and general administration secretary to prepare points against BRS arguments.

In March 2024, the Congress government set up a one-man commission to review the Kaleshwaram project. After 15 months, the commission submitted its report blaming KCR for financial excesses and structural damage at Sundilla and Annaram barrages, which are part of the Kaleshwaram barrage.

KCR is now working to protect his image as the leader who built Kaleshwaram, calling it an engineering marvel. The Congress is pushing a narrative of corruption and poor construction quality. By raising the issue in the Assembly, the government aims to shape public opinion.

All eyes are now on KCR. His decision to attend the Assembly in person or continue directing from Erravelli farmhouse will determine the course of this political battle.
