The police have booked Murmu for attempt to murder under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and he is set to be sent to jail following legal proceedings.

The motive behind the attack dates back over three decades. In 1993, ASI Virendra Singh had investigated a corruption case in the Railways, which resulted in Dinesh Murmu being dismissed from service. Murmu formerly worked as a railway gangman, responsible for maintaining and ensuring the safety of railway tracks. Since then, Murmu appears to have harbored a grudge against the officer.

This is not the first time Murmu has been involved in violent incidents. In 2005, he reportedly went to Delhi to meet a CBI officer and ended up attacking a policeman. He was jailed following the incident.

Again in 2015, he was arrested after a dispute with a Government Railway Police (GRP) jawan at Jaunpur railway station. He remained in jail for around three and a half years following that incident.
